![]() ![]() But I love Vito and Joe and Vito’s story feels much more personal than Tommy’s, I love the 50’s vibe and the cars, and Vito in his black trench coat is chef’s kiss. In the last cutscene somebody’s eyes were glitched out the whole time.Īnd yes, I agree the checkpoints suck. An easy fix to this is to pause the game, but still annoying. I had two instances in Mafia II Definitive Edition where music was playing in the background and kept looping, even over cutscenes. Especially when you compare it to the graphical masterpiece that is first Mafia Definitive Edition. It just seems like they could’ve put more work into a “Definitive Edition”. The story and gameplay was amazing, and in the end bad graphics don’t deter me away from a fun game. Other than that, Mafia II was my favorite Mafia game. This was the first time I saw grass in the game since everything before then is covered in snow (which looked so good!). When the time skip to the 50s happened the song C’mon Everybody kept looping over and over again, even over cutscenes, and the grass only loaded if I stood on top of it. At most they maybe touched up Vito and Joe and some other major characters but that’s it. I swear they barely touched most of the character models in this game. I never played original Mafia II, but I can say that when I did a play through of the Mafia series (definitive editions) Mafia II Definitive Edition stood out as the buggiest and worst looking of the three. The only thing that really bothered me is that they never fixed the clothing physics, when other clothing in the game has it implemented and working fine. Playing it on Xbox one vs the Xbox 360, especially now in 2022, it is a better looking and generally smooth experience. A lot of the hate is deserved, although I do think it's a general okay release. I think the marketing title "definitive edition" also made many hope the game would receive additional or cut content from the original release, but that never happened. DE also tends to crash more than the original game (I've personally experienced this on Xbox and pc).ĭE didn't bring much to the table (especially for PC) while having a lot of problems (especially at launch). Overall, the graphical improvements weren't that large- with many of the changes limited to marginally better textures, slightly updated character models, and a better color grading. There are routine frame rate stutters in some areas on console, along with a 30 FPS limit. Clothing physics is broken for Vito's base game clothing (but is present on dlc clothes). ![]() Character eye animations are broken in some cutscenes. At launch, audio would only play in one stereo channel during cutscenes. DE suffers from optimization issues and visual glitches. The difference is less noticeable on pc, where mafia 2's original release still looks great and plays well, even on older systems. ![]() Comparing the original console version to DE and there's a noticeable visual improvement. Definitive edition had many technical issues, especially at launch (and plenty that were never fixed). ![]()
